Private George Leitch

Private George James Leitch, 1st Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed in action in France during the Dunkirk evacuation on 31st May 1940, aged 27. He was the son of William and Elizabeth Leitch of Yetholm, Roxburghshire and is commemorated on the Dunkirk Memorial, Dunkirk, France. On that day the Battalion was holding a defensive position covering the evacuation in the area of the Bulscamp Bridge which had been demolished and at 10.p.m. were ordered to withdraw to the beaches at Dunkirk.
