Private Gavin Buchanan

Private Gavin Buchanan, 2nd Battalion, Gordon Highlanders. He was killed in action in France on 18th June 1915, aged 29. He was the son of the late Gavin and Mary Buchanan of Gunsgreen Hill, Eyemouth and the husband of Agnes Buchanan of Harpertoun, Kelso and Corsbie, Earlston, Berwickshire. He is commemorated on the Le Touret Memorial, Pas de Calais, France. He had enlisted in November 1914. He fell in the attack on the German positions in a salient known as the ” Givenchy Bluff”. Orders were mixed up and the German wire was uncut resulting in the attack failing with 147 casualties.
