Sergeant Francis Boles

Sergeant Francis Boles, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. He was a Navigator with 138 Squadron R.A.F. and was lost on Operations over France on 17th August 1943, aged 20. He was the son of Francis and Beatrice Boles of St. Clare’s, Kelso and is buried in Ecorcei Churchyard, Orne, France. His Headstone is inscribed ” Eternal Rest Grant Unto Him, O Lord; May His Soul Rest In Peace Amen “. This Squadron was a ” Special Duties ” unit which dropped supplies and agents into occupied Europe and flew the Handley Page Halifax bomber from R.A.F. Tempsford. There are only twelve Commonwealth War graves in this Churchyard.
