Private David Sanderson

Private David Sanderson, 1st Battalion, Scots Guards. He was killed in action in France on 30th September 1918, aged 19 during the “Advance to Victory “.  He was the son of Alexander and Isabella Sanderson  of 3 Coal Market, Kelso and is buried in  Grevilliers British Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France.  His Headstone is inscribed ” To Memory Ever Dear “. He fell during the crossing of the Canal Du Nord and the capture of the German Hindenburg Support line where three hundred prisoners were taken along with  two field guns, one howitzer and 90 machine guns. Casualties were 2 Officers and 31 Other Ranks killed and 4 Officers and 69 men wounded. In addition 7 men were posted missing. The photographs show Allied troops advancing against the retreating German army during the final 100 days of the War.
