Private Baddon Wallace

Private Baddon Turnbull Wallace 1st/4th ( Border ) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed in action at Gallipoli on 12th July 1915, aged 22, during the ” Charge ” on the Turkish trenches at Achi Baba Nullah. He was the son of David and Mary Wallace of 147 Roxburgh Street, Kelso and is buried at Lancashire Landing, Gallipoli, Turkey. He had been born on Kelso, lived in Kelso and had enlisted in the Town. That fateful day became known as the “Black Day Of the Borders” because of the 550 casualties sustained. At evening roll call only 70 unwounded men answered. The first photograph shows Achi Baba marked with a cross. This “hill” dominated the battlefield and was never captured. The second photo shows the Borderers going over the top at Gallipoli and the third shows the battlefield in 1922.
