Private Andrew Lindores

Private Andrew Lindores, 1st/4th ( Border ) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed in action in Palestine on 13th November 1917, aged 21. He was the son of Mr and Mrs Adam Lindores of Sandyknowe, Smailholm and is buried in Ramleh War Cemetery, Ramleh, Israel. He fell in the successful attack on strong Turkish positions in the village of El Mughar where some hundreds of Turks were captured along with artillery pieces and machine guns.  Casualties amounted to 4 Officers and 31 Other Ranks killed and 9 Officers and 138 Other Ranks wounded. His Headstone is inscribed ” Disturb Him Not But Let Him Rest As He Deserves His Well Earned Rest”. The photos show Borderers ar Ramleh in late 1917 and the three men pictured were all well known footballers with Coldstream F.C.
