Lance Corporal Andrew Inglis

Lance Corporal Andrew William Inglis, 105th Battalion, Machine Gun Corps. He died in France on 12th November 1917 of wounds received in action, aged 21. He was the son of the late James and Mary Inglis of Newton Don, Kelso and is buried in Etaples Military Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France. His Headstone is inscribed ” Thy Will Be Done “. The M.G.C used the Vickers water cooled machine gun in both defensive and offensive roles. The photograph shows gunners in shell holes amidst the desolation of the Flanders battlefield. The drainage had been destroyed by the incessant shelling and the autumnal rains had flooded the ground.
