Second Lieutenant Alexander McDonald

Second Lieutenant Alexander Auld McDonald, Royal Flying Corps. He had joined the Royal Air Force on 18th April 1918 as a Flight Cadet but was discharged on 2nd January 1919 as being “Surplus to Requirements”. He die three days later in Vancouver from pneumonia and is buried there. He was the son of George and Helen McDonald and was educated at Ednam School ,where his father was Headmaster, and the Kelso High School followed by Toronto University. He joined the Canadian Bank of Commerce in Kamloops, British Columbia from where he joined the Military in the 1st Depot of the British Columbia Regiment on 9th April 1918. He was immediately transferred to the Royal Flying Corps ony days before it became the Royal Air Force with the amalgamation on the R.F.C. and the Royal Naval Air Service. He was granted an honorary commission after his demobilisation and death.
