Wireless Operator/Air Gunner Alexander Lyle

Wireless Operator/ Air Gunner Alexander Lyle, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. He was lost on Operations with 101 Squadron R.A.F. on 27th July 1942, aged 22. He was the son of Thomas and Isabella Lyle of  Broadloan, Kelso and of Greenlaw, Berwickshire and is buried in Becklingen War Cemetery, Germany. The Squadron flew the Vickers Wellington at this time and on 27th July the Raid was on the German port of Bremen. This aircraft piloted by Captain F.S. Munday was the only aircraft lost and was on its 28th Operation. ( A “Tour  “of operations was 30 missions ) His twin brother Ian also fell – see above ).
