Private Alexander Hendry

Private Alexander Hendry, 2nd Battalion, Scots Guards. He was killed in action in France, aged 26, on the 18th May 1915 during the Battle of Festubert. He had been born in Greenlaw and was the son of William Hendry who was the farm Steward at Lurdenlaw, Kelso. He was the husband of Isabella Hendry of Swintonhill, Berwickshire and is commemorated on the Le Touret Memorial, France. This battle cost the Battalion 401 casualties in killed, wounded and missing. The photos were taken during the Battle.
