Lance Corporal Adam Handyside

Private Adam Handyside, 2nd Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed in action in France on 8th May 1917 during the Battle of Arras, aged 22. He was the son of James and Isabella Handyside of Mayfield, Kelso and is commemorated on the Arras Memorial, Arras, France.On that date the Battalion were holding front line trenches near Fresnoy Wood when they were very heavily shelled by the Germans. In two days the Battalion suffered 160 casualties with1 Officer and 20 Other Ranks killed. The photos show troops during the Battle.
