Private Robert Mabon

Private Robert Mabon, 12th ( Service ) Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. He was killed in action during the Salonika campaign  against the Bulgarians on 28th November 1916, aged 30. He had been born in Hutton and was the son of Robert and Isabella Mabon of Hutton Hall Barns, Hutton and is buried in Karasouli Military Cemetery, Greece. Before the war he had worked at Edington Mill and was known to be a strong man. Four days before war was declared, he had won a pillow fight contest at Chirnside. He enlisted in the Argylls in October 1914. The photographs show Scottish troops at Salonika.
