Private George Redden

Private George Younger Redden, 1st Battalion, Border Regiment. He was killed in action in Flanders on 28th September 1918 during “The Advance to Victory” aged 25. He had been born in Bonkyl, Berwickshire and was the son of James and Jane Redden of South View, Hutton and is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Zonnebeke, Belgium.  He had been employed as a miller when he enlisted as a Driver in the army Service Corps in November 1915. After training he was posted to France and transferred to the 17th Battalion, Manchester Regiment. In June 1918 he was transferred to the 1st Borders. The photographs show Allied troops during the final advance against the retreating German army in the last 100 days of the War.
