Private William Blackie

Private William Blackie, 7th (Service ) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He died from wounds after being struck by a sniper in France on 12th September 1915, aged 21. He was the son of Alexander and Catherine Blackie, of Smailholm Mains and East Morriston, Earlston and is buried in Noeux-Les-Mines Communal Cemetery,  Pas de Calais, France. He had been born in Coldstream in 1894 and had enlisted at Greenlaw. Before enlisting in September 1914  he had been employed at Fallsidehill farm. His Headstone is inscribed ” He Gave His Life That We Might Live”.
