Private Ralf Hills

Private Ralf Hills, 1st/5th (Territorial) Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. He was killed in action on 14th October 1918 in Belgium, aged 20, during “The Advance to Victory” and is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Zonnebeke, Belgium. He had been born in Lowick, Glendale, Northumberland and was the son of the late Ralph and Emily Hills.  Before enlisting, originally in the 11th Argylls, he had been employed as a farm servant at Mount Alban farm, Reston.  His brother Bryan also fell during the War. The photographs show Allied troops advancing after the retreating German army during the final 100 days of the War.
