Private George Cromarty

Private George Douglas Cromarty, 2nd/4th East Lancashire Regiment. He was killed in action in France on 21st March 1918, aged 19, on the first day of the German Spring Offensive ( Operation Michael ). He was the son of Thomas and Sarah Cromarty of Front Street, Holy Island, Beal and is commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial, Somme, France. ( The Memorial shows his Unit as the Northumberland Fusiliers so it is probable that he was transferred from that Regiment ). The photographs show troops preparing to meet the advancing Germans.
