Seaman Adam Henderson

Seaman Adam Shell Henderson Royal Naval Patrol Service. He was lost at sea aboard H. M. Trawler “Kingston Beryl” on 25th December 1943, aged 20. He was the son of Robert and Margaret Henderson of Holy Island and is commemorated on the Lowestoft Naval Memorial.  The trawler of 350 tons was built in 1928 and had been requisitioned by the Admiralty as an anti submarine vessel. On Christmas Day off the Isle of Islay she struck 2 British mines which had broken free and sank swiftly with the loss of 27 crew. In April 1941 the trawler had been credited with shooting down an Me 110 fighter bomber.
