Private Andrew Common Burns, 3rd Scottish Border Battalion, Home Guard. He died on Service on 26th July 1942, aged 40. He had been born in Abbey St Bathans and was the son of George Alexander and Isabella Common Burns He was married to Margaret Storrie Burns of Greenlaw and is buried in Greenlaw Parish Churchyard. He had been employed by Messrs Middlemiss & Sons in Greenlaw and had been a keen member of the Home Guard. He was injured in a training accident and died in hospital in Galashiels.
