Corporal George Waldie

Corporal George Waldie, Base Depot ,Army Ordnance Corps. He died from pleurisy on Service in Roseneath Military Hospital, Wrexham, aged 35, on 12th February 1918 and is buried in Gordon churchyard. He had been born in Gordon and was the son of Robert and Margaret Waldie of Gordon and had enlisted in Edinburgh. He had served his apprenticeship as a blacksmith with his father in Gordon before enlisting in 1914. He served mainly in the Le Havre area where he contracted pleurisy and was evacuated to Wales.
