Captain Kenneth Selby Henderson

Captain Kenneth Selby Henderson ,1 Squadron, Royal Flying Corps. He was killed in action in France on 2nd June 1918, aged 24. He was the son of John and Alice Henderson, Jedburgh, Yaraka, Queensland, Australia and the grandson of John Henderson of Middlethird, Gordon. He had originally enlisted in the 5th Australian Light Horse. He served at Gallipoli but was evacuated to Cardiff suffering from dysentery and on the 25th December he reported to Brooklands for flight training.  He qualified as a pilot in January 1916 and joined the R.F.C. He was promoted Lieutenant in May 1917 and Captain in July 1917. He is commemorated on the Arras Flying Services Memorial, France. 1 Squadron flew SE5A s and had 31 Aces (an ace had at least 5 confirmed air victories )  N.B. The Royal Flying Corps and the Royal Naval Air Service had combined to become the Royal Air Force on 1st April 1918.
