Private Francis Elliot

Private Francis William Elliot, 4th ( Reserve ) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He died in hospital on 12th July 1918, aged 22, and is buried in Gavinton Churchyard. He was educated at the Berwickshire High School, Duns and is commemorated on the Memorial Tablet placed in the new Berwickshire High School, Duns. He had been born in Langton and was the son of William and Elizabeth Elliot of Raecleugh Head Farm, Duns and had enlisted in the Town. He had been working on the farm when he was called up but contracted pneumonia whilst in training and died in Ceres Auxiliary Hospital, in Cupar, Fife. ( At this time the Spanish Flu epidemic was sweeping the world ).
