Private James Hardie

Private James Hardie, 21st ( Service ) Battalion, Manchester Regiment. He was killed in action in France between 4th and 11th October 1918 in France during the “Advance to Victory” aged 23. He was the son of John and Grace Hardie of Lowick and was a native of South Berrington, Ancroft, Berwick-Upon-Tweed and is buried in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gouy, France. All the men in this cemetery died in October 1918. The 21st Manchesters  were a ” Pals ” Battalion , one of the six  that Manchester raised during the Great War. The photographs show Allied troops during the advance against the retreating German army in the final 100 days of the War.
