Private George Thompson

Private George Frederick Thompson, 10th ( Service ) Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. He was killed  in Belgium on 2nd March 1918, aged 30. He had been born in Fogo and was the son of William and Mary Thompson  and is buried in New Irish Farm Cemetery, near Ypres, Belgium. William thompson was the Estate Overseer at Charterhall, Duns. Before enlisting in September 1914 he had been employed as a motor engineer in Eskbank, Midlothian. He went to France with the 12th Battalion, Argylls in September 1915 but was wounded in Octobere. Upon recovery he was posted to the 10th Battalion in November 1915.
