Deck Hand William Young

Deck Hand William Young, Royal Naval Reserve. He was lost aboard H.M. Drifter “Christina Craig” on 15th February 1918 aged 31. He had been born in Eyemouth and was the son of the late William and Margaret Young and the husband of Elizabeth Stevenson Young of George Street, Eyemouth and is commemorated on the Chatham Memorial. ( For fuller details see William Collin ). He had also been Coxswain of the Eyemouth Lifeboat. The ship was caught in a German destroyer raid and was among 8 vessels lost. The “Christina Craig” was a drifter built for Eyemouth men in a boatyard near Buckie and was stationed at No. 13 buoy. All 10 crew were lost.
