Chief Engineer William Jackson

Chief Engineer William Jackson, Fishing Fleet. He was lost at sea on 5th July 1944 aboard the fishing vessel” Noreen Mary” aged 51. He had been born in Glasgow and was the son of Cornelius and Margaret Jackson and the husband of Mary Ann Jackson of Church Street, Eyemouth and is commemorated on the Tower Hill Memorial, London. The unarmed trawler was sunk near Cape Wrath by U-247 using her deck gun with only 4 survivors from the 12 man crew. Evidence of this war crime was given at the Nuremberg War Crimes Trials in 1946 by one of the survivors Deck Hand James Macalister.
