Private William Cooper

Private William Cooper, 54th ( Kootenay ) Battalion, Canadian Infantry.  ( He served as William Windram having changed his name from Cooper in 1912 ) He was killed in action in France, aged 28, on the 8th September 1917. He had been born in Eyemouth and was the son of Isabella Windram of May House, Eyemouth and the husband of Jane Windram of 14 Colvin Street, Dunbar. ( She had remarried in 1918 to Robert Marr of Dunbar. He is commemorated on the Vimy Memorial, Vimy, France. He had been employed as a labourer in Canada when he enlisted in the 62nd Battalion in Vancouver in November 1915. In France he was posted to the 54th Battalion and was wounded in November 1916. His brother John also fell – see above.
