Flight Sergeant Robert Fishbourne

Flight Sergeant Robert Dougal Fishbourne, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. He was a Pilot Instructor and died on Active Service in a flying accident on 15th April 1945, aged 24. He had been born in Eyemouth and was the son of Morrel and Janet McKenzie Fishbourne of 7 Market Place, Eyemouth and the husband of Jeannie Fishbourne, Brownsbank, Eyemouth and is buried in Eyemouth Kirkyard. Before enlisting in 1942 he had been employed by the G.P.O. Engineering Department. He gained his “Wings” in Canada and became a Pilot Instructor at 18 (Pilots) Advanced Training Unit at R.A.F. Snittersfield, Warwickshire.  Both he and his pupil were killed when their Airspeed Oxford hit power lines in bad visibility near Market Deeping, Warwickshire
