Guardsman Robert Collin

Guardsman Robert Collin, 1st Battalion, Scots Guards. He was killed in action in Italy, aged 26, on 9th February 1944 during the Battle of Anzio. He had been born in Eyemouth and was the son of Andrew and Sarah Collin of Upper Houndlaw Park, Eyemouth and is buried in Beach Head War Cemetery, Anzio, Italy. He had enlisted in the Guards in 1940 and landed at Anzio on the 22nd January and faced several German counter attacks in early February 1944. The photograph shows the Guards in a trench at Anzio.
