Private James Borthwick

Private James Lough Borthwick, 51st Battalion, Australian Infantry Forces. He died of wounds in the 3rd Casualty Clearing Station in France on 3rd April 1917, aged 31. He had been born in Eyemouth and was the son of John and Catherine Borthwick of 27a Albert Road, Eyemouth and is buried in Pozieres British Cemetery Ovillers La Boiselle, Somme, France. He had been employed by the North British Railway Company before emigrating to Australia to work for the Western Australian Government Railway in Perth, Western Australia and had enlisted there in March 1916. He had been a noted footballer and had played for many of the local Berwickshire  teams.
