Sergeant James Aitchison

Sergeant Observer James Dougal Aitchison, Royal Air Force. He served with 9 Squadron, R.A.F. and was lost on an Air Operation in support of Allied operations in Norway on 12th April 1940 aged 25. He had been born in Eyemouth and was the son of David and Elizabeth Crombie Aitchison of “Helenville”, Eyemouth and is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial. He had joined the R.A.F in 1929.  At the time of loss the Squadron was flying the Vickers Wellington 1C from R.A.F. Lossimouth. 9 Squadron was the oldest dedicated Bomber Squadron in the R.A.F.
