Flight Sergeant George Wishart

Flight Sergeant George Sinclair Wishart, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. He was a Navigator with 218 (Gold Coast ) Squadron R.A.F. and was lost on an Air Operation on 27th May 1943. He had been born in Eyemouth and was the son of Sinclair John and Ina Wishart of  Coldingham Road, Eyemouth and is buried in the Reichswald Forest War Cemetery, Germany. At the time of loss 218 Squadron flew the Short Stirling heavy bomber from R.A.F. Downham Market as part of the Main Bomber Force. He was educated at the Berwickshire High School, Duns before going to work for the Commercial Bank in Eyemouth.  His aircraft was lost to ground fire on a raid to Dortmund. He is also commemorated on the Memorial Tablet placed in the new High School, Duns. The colour photo shows a Stirling being ” bombed up” before a mission.
