Deck Hand Alexander Patterson

Deck Hand Alexander Patterson, Royal Naval Reserve. He was lost at sea aboard H.M. Trawler “St. Ives” on 21st December 1916, aged 18. He had been born in Eyemouth was the son of Robert and Elizabeth Patterson of St Ellas Place, Eyemouth and is commemorated on the Chatham Memorial. The Trawler was an ex Hull ship of 325 tons Skippered by Lieutenant William Carmichael R.N.R. and sank after striking a mine at St Anthony Point near Falmouth with 1 Officer and 10 crew lost. The mine had been laid by U.C. 17.
