Lance Corporal William Stansfield, 5/6th ( Territorial ) Battalion, Royal Scots. He was killed in action in France, aged 23, on 11th August 1918 during the attack on Parvilliers during the “Advance To Victory” aged 23. He had been born in Gateshead and was the son of Andrew and Elizabeth Stansfield of Kimmerhame Mill, Edrom and Horseupcleugh, Longformacus and is commemorated on the Vis-en-Artois Memorial, France. Before enlisting in November 1915 he had been employed as a shepherd at Edrom Newton farm. He had originally joined the 9th Battal;ion but in France he was posted to the 5th Battalion in December 1916.
