Lance Corporal James Weir

Lance Corporal James Weir, 11th( Service ) Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. He was killed in action on the second day of the Battle of Loos on 26th September 1915, aged 20. He had been born in Hume, Berwickshire andwas the son of Samuel and Euphemia Landels Weir of Woodend , Duns and is commemorated on the Loos Memorial, Loos, France.  He had been employed as a postman in Gordon before becoming a gamekeeper at Kimmerghame, Edrom. The photograph shows the village of Loos after capture and the artist’s illustration depicts the Highlanders in action at Loos led by their pipers.
