Gunner James Tait

Gunner James Tait, 139th Heavy Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery. He died of wounds in the 1st Canadian General Hospital, Etaples in France, aged 30, on 25th April 1918. He he had been born near Haddington and was the son of Andrew and Agnes Tait of Kimmerghame Mains, Edrom and he is buried in Etaples Military Cemetery, France.  His Battery used the “60 pounder “heavy artillery piece which was often used on counter battery fire as well as putting down explosives on  strongpoints, roads and dumps behind enemy lines His Headstone is inscribed ” Till The Day Breaks And The Shadows Flee Away “.
