Private James Patterson

Private James Patterson, 12th ( Service ) Battalion, Royal Scots. He was killed in France on 7th May 1917 during the Battle of Arras aged 29. He was the son of Henry and Janet Patterson of Manderson South Lodge, Edrom and is commemorated on the Arras Memorial, France. He had originally enlisted in the K.O.S.B but in France he was transferred to the Royal Scots. The artist’s illustration depicts the nature of the fighting during the Battle and the photograph shows British troops accompanied by a tank in the main street of a captured village near Arras.
