Lance Corporal George Wilson

Lance Corporal George Wilson, 1st Battalion,  Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed in action in France, aged 21, on 18th August 1918 during the ” Advance to Victory” He had been born in Westruther and was the son of George and Margaret Wilson of Kimmerghame Mains, Duns and is buried in Outtersteene Communal Cemetery Extension, Bailleul, France. He fell in the successful attack on the Hoegenacker Mill position. Casualties were 2 Officers and 21 Other Ranks killed with 2 Officers and 105 Other Ranks wounded.  The Battalion captured 300 prisoners and 60 Machine Guns.( One of these guns is now in the K.O.S.B. Museum in Berwick Barracks ). He had been born in Westruther, resided in Greenlaw and before enlisting he had been employed as a ploughman.
