Private Arthur Hamilton

Private Alexander Hamilton, 7th/8th ( Service ) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He died in France  in the 46th Field Ambulance near Arras from wounds caused by shelling on 27th May 1918, aged 19. He had been born in Edrom and was the son of David and Annie Hamilton of  Sinclair’s Hill, Edrom and Burnbank, Foulden, Berwickshire and is buried in Anzin-St-Aubin British Cemetery France. Before enlisting in February 1917 he had been employed as a joiner at Kelloe Mains , Edrom.  He was originally posted to the 15th Highland Light Infantry but was transferred in France to the K.O.S.B. His Headstone is inscribed ” To Memory Ever Dear “. At this time the Battalion was holding trenches astride the Scarpe near Arras. The photos show troops in defensive positions at that time during the German Spring Offensives.
