Private Andrew Nairn

Private Andrew Nairn, 12th ( Service ) Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. He was killed in action on the Salonica Front, aged 23, on 19th September 1918 and is buried in Doiran Military Cemetery, Salonica, Greece.  He had been born in Whitsome and was the son of James and the late Jane Nairn of Blackadder Bank, Edrom and Huntlaw, Pencaitland, East Lothian. Before enlisting in the Army Service Corps in November 1914 he had been employed as a farm servant at Blackadder Bank farm, Edrom. In August 1916 he was posted to Salonica and transferred into the Argylls in April 1918.The photo shows Scottish troops at Salonika.
