Second Lieutenant Alexander McDonald

Second Lieutenant Alexander Auld McDonald, Royal Flying Corps. He joined the R.A.F. in 18th April 1918 as a Flight Cadet but was discharged on 2nd January 1919 as being “Surplus to Requirements”. He died in Vancouver three days later from pneumonia and is buried in that City. He was of George and Helen McDonald and was educated in Ednam school where his father was Headmaster followed by Kelso High School and Toronto University. He joined the Canadian Bank of Commerce in Kamloops, British Columbia from where he joined the Military in the 1st Depot of the British Columbia Regiment on 9th April 1918. He was immediately discharged to serve with the Royal Flying Corps days before it was amalgamated with the Royal Naval Air Force to become the R.A.F. He was granted an honorary Commision as a Second Lieutenant after his demobilisation and death.
