Private William Galbraith

Private William Galbraith, 6th Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. He was killed in action at Salerno on 9th September 1943 aged 30. He had been born in Sprouston, Roxburghshire and was the son of George and Janet Galbraith of Duns and is buried in Salerno War Cemetery, Salerno, Italy. Before enlisting he had been employed at Springhall farm, near Ednam.  His wife Marion Galbraith worked nearby at Highridgehall farm. On that day the Battalion were involved in fierce fighting  and completed the expulsion of the Germans from the strong point of Magazzea. The photos show troops during ” Operation Avalanche “.
