Private William Kerr

Private William Kerr, 1st/6th ( Morayshire ) Battalion, Seaforth Highlanders. He was killed in action on 12th October 1918 during the “Advance to Victory” aged 19. He was the son of William and Annie Kerr of West High Street, Earlston and is buried in Queant Communal Cemetery British Extension, Queant, France. The battalion was part of the 152nd Brigade in the 51st ( Highland ) Division. The colour photo shows the impressive Memorial raised to commemorate the 51st Highland Division of which the Battalion was part. It was erected at ” Y” Ravine which was taken during the capture of the very strong German positions at Beaumont Hamel by the Division on 13th November 1916. The other photos show Allied troops during the advance against the retreating German Army in the final 100 days of the War.
