Lance Corporal Alexander Simpson, M.M.

Lance Corporal Alexander Simpson M.M., 11th ( Service ) Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. He was killed in action, aged 32, on 20th April 1918  in France during the German Spring Offensives on the River Lys and is buried in Feuchy Chapel British Cemetery, Wancourt, France. He had been born at Dalcove, Roxburghshire and was the son of Helen and the late Andrew Simpson of East Morriston, Earlston and Byrewalls, Gordon. Before enlisting in September 1914 he had been employed as a forester . He had been wounded during the Battle of Loos and had re joined his Battalion in May 1916.  He fought in the Battles of the Somme, Ypres and Arras and his award of the Military Medal was announced in June 1918.The photographs show Allied troops preparing to resist the advancing Germans.
