Private William Duns

Private William Duns,  1st Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed in Flanders by shellfire on 25th August 1917 during the Third Battle of Ypres, aged 19. He was the second son of William and Elisabeth Duns of Clockmill, Duns and is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Zonnebeke, Belgium. His Father was a builder with premises in Gourlay’s Wynd, Duns and he had enlisted in the K.O.S.B. in 1915 aged just 17. Before enlisting he had worked for Lady Miller of Manderson Estate which was near Duns. The photos show troops during the early stages of the Battle.
