Private William Burnett

Private William Burnett, 11th ( Service ) Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. He was killed in action in France on 22nd October 1915 at the end of the Battle of Loos aged 32. He had been born in Duns and was the son of James Burnett of 27 North Street, Duns and the brother of David above.  He had been working in Glasgow when he enlisted in 1914. He is commemorated on the Loos Memorial, Dud Corner, Loos, France. The artist’s illustration depicts a Battalion attack at Loos led by their pipers.
