Rifleman William Blackie

Rifleman William Ford Blackie, 2nd Battalion, Rifle Brigade. He was killed in France on 4th April 1917, aged 30. He had been born in Duns and was the son of John and Jane Blackie of 30 Newtown Street, Duns and is buried in Gouzeaucourt New British Cemetery, France. His Headstone is inscribed ” Beloved Son Of John & Jane Blackie, Committed Unto Him Against That Day “. He had served his apprenticeship as a draper in Duns before going to work in Edinburgh then London. He went to France in August 1916 but caught an infection and did not return to France until February 1917.
