Gunner William Reid

Gunner William John Reid, “Forth” Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery. He died on Service on 15th July 1915, aged 24 and is buried in Duns Cemetery. He had been born in Duns and was the son  of Isabella and the late William Reid of Bridgend, Duns. He was educated at the Berwickshire High School, Duns and is also commemorated on the Memorial Tablet placed in the new Berwickshire High School, Duns.  He had been on sentry duty at the Rosyth Naval Base when his rifle accidentally discharged. He was taken to hospital in Dunfermline but died there.The R.G.A. used the heavy artillery pieces such as the 60 pounder an example of which is shown below.
