Flight Sergeant Monteith Pearson

Flight Sergeant Air Gunner, Monteith Samuel Pearson, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. He  was lost on an Air  Operation to Berlin, aged 23, with 622 Squadron Royal Air Force on 15th February 1944. The plane crashed at Neu Gaarz where all the crew were originally buried. He had been born in Duns and was the second son of Robert Hogg Pearson and Rachel Fortune Pearson of Lothian House, Duns and was married to Isabella Thompson Pearson of Police Buildings, Duns. She was the daughter of Mr and Mrs Davidson of the Police Station, Duns. He is now buried in the Berlin 1939-1945 War Cemetery where his Headstone is inscribed ” Beloved Husband Of Bell Davidson, Son of Robt. & Ray Pearson, Duns, Scotland “.  He was a well known local sportsman and racing cyclist and worked with his father’s coal business.  ( The firm still operates in Duns and they deliver the author’s coal ).622 Squadron was based at RAF Mildenhall, Suffolk and flew the Avro Lancaster as part of 3 Group Main Force. His Lancaster was numbered WA4628-GI-A and all the crew were lost.
