Private James Waite

Private James  Kinghorn Waite, 2/2nd London Regiment, Royal Fusiliers ( City of London Regiment ). He was killed in action in France, aged 29, on 27th August 1918 during the “Advance to Victory” and is buried in Peronne Road Cemetery, Maricourt, France. He had been born in Duns in 1889 and was the son of the late Alexander and Elizabeth Waite  formerly of Market Square, Duns and was the husband of Jane Waite of Willis Wynd, Duns.  He had been posted to the Royal Fusiliers from his original Unit which was The Lothian and Border Horse. ( His brother Charles also fell – see above ). The photographs show Allied troops during the final advance against the retreating German army.
