Private Henry Hunter

Private Henry Wilson Hunter, 1st/4th ( Border ) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He died on 15th December 1917 of wounds received in action in Palestine, aged 22 and is commemorated on the Jerusalem War Memorial. He had been born in Coldingham and was the son of William and the late Margaret of Kimmerghame Mains, Edrom, Duns.  Already his twin brother David had been killed in action at Gallipoli during the ” Charge” on 12th July 1915. (He is commemorated on the Edrom War Memorial ). Another brother John, who was with the Highland Light Infantry, had been reported as Missing in France in November 1917. ( The C.W.G.C. site does not list John as a casualty so he may have been a Prisoner). ( Henry is also commemorated on the Edrom War Memorial ). The photographs show the Borderers in Palestine in late 1917. the tree soldiers are Alec Lawrie, Willie Cockburn and Jim Murray all of whom played football for Coldstream F.C.
